Duisburg 2013 – New logo for canoe sprint world champioships

The Lord Mayor of Duisburg, Soeren Link, and the President of the German Canoe Federation, Thomas Konietzko, today introduced the new logo for 2013 Canoe Sprint World Championships (WCh) to the public. The race for titles from 27th August to 1st September will mark a sportive highlight for the regatta course within Sportspark Duisburg. The logo features the script “Duisburg 2013” and was created in collaboration with the Communications Dept. of German Canoe Federation. It will now be present on all publications related to the Championships.

“ We would like to demonstrate our close link to the city and the internationally recognised sports facility in Sportspark Duisburg” said President Thomas Konietzko. It will be the fifth time that Canoe Sprint World Championships will be staged in Duisburg. No other location has hosted world’s best athletes in this Olympic sports more often. Duisburg is a trade mark for Canoe Sprint in its own right and therefore we would like to stress and utilize this strength in our communication.

Lord Mayor Link regards this feature as a recognition for the location by German as well as International Federations. “ We feel honoured by twinning the bid after Rio returning the Championships to ICF. This demonstrates confidence in Duisburg’s ability to stage this event with short notice. Duisburg will do everything possible to justify is confidence.” The City will support Canoe Regatta Club, the local organising body, with its President Otto Schulte with staffing and organisational resources.

Otto Schulte stated regarding the logo: “We regard the WCh as a chance to create positive headlines for Duisburg and advertise our city with all its strength. Sportspark Duisburg is unique within Germany and has reached international standards since the construction of the parallel channel. To say it clear: Duisburg means phantastic water based sports. I am sure we will achieve this with the WCh lying in front of us.
